The power of white labelling in the Olympus Mobility app

The world of corporate mobility is changing rapidly, and companies like Olympus Mobility play a crucial role in this. Olympus Mobility NV, founded at the end of 2015 and grew out of the Belgian railways, offers innovative solutions to make mobility management easier. The company, with shareholders such as Cambio, VAB and Mpact, offers an advanced “Mobility-as-a-Service” platform that makes public and shared transportation accessible to companies and their employees via a single access point. By simplifying mobility and the associated administrative processes, Olympus Mobility helps organizations manage their mobility policy efficiently and in a future-oriented way. A few months ago, Olympus Mobility launched a completely renewed app, with a more intuitive design and improved functionalities. Not only is the focus on an increased user experience, but we also focused on white labeling. But what exactly does that mean, and why is it so valuable?

What is white labelling?

White labeling means that an app can be fully personalized for different companies. This means that the app can be customized with each company's branding, such as logos, color schemes, and other visual elements, making it look like the app was developed specifically for that company. While the core functionalities of the app remain the same, the visual elements are tailored to the identity of each company.

Why is white labelling valuable?

White labelling offers many advantages for companies:
It provides a consistent brand experience for both employees and customers, while taking advantage of the technology and features of an existing app. Companies can integrate their own branding and corporate identity without having to develop a completely new solution.

This makes it possible to offer a professional-looking app that fits their brand perfectly, without the large investment that is usually required for customized solutions.

Another important advantage is the scalability that white labeling offers. Thanks to uniform technology, companies can expand rapidly without much additional development and maintenance costs. This means that an app can easily be offered to various companies and partners, while the basic application is centrally managed and stays up to date. Moreover, this scalability makes it possible to respond quickly to new trends and new opportunities without increasing operational complexity.

Thanks to the white labeling concept, Olympus has built a network of resellers, where each reseller has the opportunity to offer Olympus's mobility offering to its customers without losing their own identity. Some of these partners include Shell, Attentia, Acerta and Alphabet. More information about the partners can be found on the Olympus website Mobility

How did we apply white labelling in the Olympus app?

In the latest version of the Olympus app, we used white labeling to give partners and companies the opportunity to show their own identity. Here's how we've achieved this:

  • Logo and branding: one of the most important aspects of white labeling is integrating the company logo and color palette into the app. Instead of a generic look, companies can now incorporate their own branding into the Olympus app.
  • Personalized homescreen: we've made the app's homescreen fully customizable, so it can be tailored to each company's style. This includes customized images, personal mobility preferences, and a personal address.
  • Tailored functionality: Depending on the needs of an organization, certain functions can be visible or hidden, and the app can be tailored to the specific mobility services they offer.

What challenge came with this?

While white labelling offers companies the opportunity to implement their own visual style, there are some challenges associated with white labelling to ensure a good user experience.

One of the biggest challenges was finding a balance between customization and a consistent, intuitive user experience. It was important to ensure that personalization, such as integrating colors and logos, did not compromise the app's usability. We had to carefully consider how to implement branding elements without affecting readability or navigation through the app.

Another challenge was maintaining visual consistency despite diverse branding. We needed to make sure that each personalized version of the app looked professional and functioned as intended, regardless of the customer's branding. This required strict control over the implementation of branding elements and an extensive testing phase to ensure that the user experience remained intact.

To address these challenges, we have developed a design system. This system ensures that, while the app is personalized for different companies, the basic functionality and user experience remain consistent. The design system provides guidelines and components that help create a uniform user interface, regardless of branding, and ensures that the app remains intuitive and user-friendly.

Conclusion

The integration of white labeling into the Olympus app offers companies and partners an effective way to strengthen their brand identity without sacrificing the app's core functionality and usability. This approach creates numerous business opportunities by enabling companies to distribute their services through various partners and organizations. The network effect increases the reach and impact of the app, while companies benefit from economies of scale and rapid expansion without the high costs of custom development.

By finding a careful balance between customization and an intuitive user experience, and by implementing a robust design system, we have created a solution that is both visually appealing and functionally reliable.

We are proud of the result and look forward to further exploring and expanding the capabilities of the Olympus app in the future.
