Optiriver
Real-time river navigation
OptiRiver is an innovative platform that improves the safety and efficiency of river transport. Many rivers do not have detailed maps, so large ships avoid certain routes. OptiRiver wants to change this by generating accurate water depth maps so that captains can navigate more safely in shallow waters.
Lemon developed a Proof of Value mobile app to test how captains can contribute to OptiRiver. In a first phase, data is collected via depth gauges on small boats. The app reads the depth and GPS data from the depth gauge via Bluetooth and forwards it to the cloud. Based on this data, river maps can be improved, allowing ships to sail with greater certainty, reducing the risk of crashes and reducing operational costs.

Lemon developed a simple mobile app as Proof of Value, so that OptiRiver can test its concept. The goal is that captains can easily connect to the depth gauge via the app, view the measurement data and that the data is automatically forwarded to the cloud. Advanced functions are deliberately kept out of scope to maintain focus on core functionality and keep the Proof of Value as light as possible.

Affordable river bottom monitoring
The mobile application offers a cost-effective solution for monitoring the river bottom. The app connects to the depth gauge via Bluetooth and reads real-time measurement data, such as water depth and GPS location, and automatically sends it to a cloud platform where it is processed. Thanks to simple and affordable technology, even small vessels can contribute to improving navigation infrastructure.
Offline functionality
The mobile app continues to function optimally, even without an internet connection. When no network is available, the measurement data is temporarily stored locally. Once the app reconnects to the internet, the data is automatically synced to the cloud. Thanks to this offline caching, captains can collect data at any time, regardless of the availability of a stable internet connection.

In a short time, Lemon developed a mobile application that collects depth measurements via Bluetooth, visualizes the measurement data in the app and sends the data to the cloud. This allows OptiRiver to perform valuable tests directly from the river.
